goldfish are notoriously dirty fish. I'm sure you read in your fish books about the dangers of overcrowding. A nice fishtank is a pleasure. One day I'd like to have at least a hundred gallon tank

3 days until the move. I'll be so damn pissed if this fish dies before I can get him into a tank

Just to update this, Timmy is still alive! I settled on a 5 gallon tank though. And he has a companion that is named Timmy too because its the exact same size and color as original Timmy and we can no longer tell them apart. But yeah for having had them for a year!

Keeping any fish in a bowl, especially a goldfish, is one of the many greatest sins of fishkeeping.
One goldfish (depending on the type) requires atleast a 20 gallon aquarium (larger is better) and a 40+ gallon filter.

One goldfish requires at least 10 gallons up to 20. I've never read 20 anywhere as being the definitive minimum or even the recommended minimum. Our tank is 15 (5 was a typo) because we can't space anything bigger. Technically we should have a 20 because we have 2 fish in there, but I'm not worried about the missing 5 gallons because our goldfish are healthy and active.

Yes Chacha they do. LOL. I thought it was crazy the first time I heard it. But my middle son and I belong to a goldfish lovers group and one of the guys in the group rescues them a few times a year (and other fish) from people who no longer wants pets. A few of the pet stores in his area advertise his services.
