Help with Fairy Knots/Single Strand Knots
Hello!
Okay so I've been natural for 3 months now, I BC'ed in March after transitioning for about 7 months. My hair has been growing at a pretty good rate but I've started to notice that I'm getting more and more fairy knots in my hair. Is this a sign that I should start doing protective styles now because I've just been wearing my hair out in a TWA since I BC'ed or maybe that I'm manipulating it too much because I co-wash it everyday? I'm just worried that I might lose all the progress I've made due to these little knots everywhere.
Thank you!!

When fairy knots aka single strand knots occur on kinky hair it could be caused by:
wearing too many "out" styles/not wearing enough protective styles...
combing on dry hair...
not using conditioner often enough...
not wearing protection when sleeping, wearing hats without protection.
And I'm not sure if co-washing daily is a good thing.
You should cut those knots because they'll only lead to hair breakage.Last edited by lin19lyn; 06-05-2011 at 09:29 PM.

SSKs won't completely go away, but you can lessen them. Good luck.

Personally, I'm a wild! sleeper with 3 pillows on my bed so for me I have to wear the scarf! Hella, I never know where I'll end up on that bed! But many calmer sleepers just use the pillowcase.

hey everyone! thanks for all your responses, but i actually just started doing a final rinse of my hair with cold water before i get out of the shower and now i have no problems with the knots! it also adds shine to the hair and makes it a lot less tangled. i would definitely recommend you guys to try it out
