Default As My Hair Gets Longer, My Hair Type Is Changing... Weird Right???

so here's the deal.... when i first BC last August my hair was decent with its curl pattern but it looked more like i had oohhh sssaayyyyy 4b curls now that im at 9 months i have 4a-3c curls working their way in when i do a wash and go... this is crazy has anyone else experienced their hair texture change over time???? Also it's not only getting more curly its also getting straighter like im amazed at how my hair is changing right now. everytime i do a wash and go my curls are looking more and more like a S pattern. Im not mad about it, just wondering if this has happened to anyone else...

The hair at the root can display differently from the hair when it gets some length. My hair, cropped, looks a very different texture from my longer hair.

are you sure you were typing your hair correctly to begin with?

For instance, under the typing system that uses "4b" 4b does not have curls, the strands are z shaped

u know u could be right..... when i first went natural i didnt really do my research, i just went along with what everyone else said, which is why i tell everyone to not take eveything youtubers say as gospel so i think ur right i might have never been a 4b maybe ive always been a 4a but its just turning more into a S pattern now... hmmm never thought of it that way lol Thanks haha

Yeah my hair looked like super soft kinda loose curls when I first BC'd. With length came some very loose s-waves and tight coils. Now I see that my hair is predominately s-waves and coils, but the loosest strands of hair have actually tighted up .

I hear that gravity can play a small role in how your curls look when it gets longer... Hope I don't sound ignorant, LOL

Gravity only works for certain hair types...there's not enough gravity on this planet to turn my coils into hanging S-curls, lol.

I agree with GG in that you probably weren't typing your hair correctly to begin with.

I was at an outdoor event with my friend the other night and as the night wore on her hanging coils slowly morphed into a puffy 'fro. If you'd seen her at the start you would have called her a 3c...but if you'd seen her at the end you would have called her a 4a/4b. Her example reminded me of how inexact and unscientific hair typing is even though I still believe it can be useful provided you're not putting subjective views on it (as in, "Thank God I'm a 3c and not a nasty 4b").
Hello, 2021. Glad to see you. Hope you're bringing us goodness and light this year!

Your hair is probably healthier and more moisturized. Now that it has the right moisture balance your curls are more defined and starting to show. So your curl pattern didn't literally change but your hair became more moisturized which resulted in the curls.

As your hair is getting longer, it is possible that your hair is able to "clump" into coils better than it did when it was shorter. So the bigger coils that could not form a coil because there wasn't enough length to complete a revolution can now do so since your hair is longer.....

My hair def changed and thats one of the biggest reasons on why im locing now when I first cut my hair it was straight s curls but being on this site about 3 years ago I learned that that was normal so I waited. My hair did get nice and thick but as its gotten longer its gotten straighter. before I use to be able to braid my hair in a couple of plaits and have a nice fluffy braid out recently my braidouts started to look smoother and it wasnt looking nappy enough for my liking. Ive even resorted to protein treatments to change the hair texture and make it thicker but that didnt work

Im hoping that dreds will give me my napps back
