4 B/C thin breaking ends
When I realized doing corn rows every 2 days for 2 years was causing massive breakage, on top of using hello hydration I stopped doing both and began looking for a new style.
I stopped spritzing with evoo/water mix every day and occasionally spray my head with water every 4-5 days or when it feels really dry.
I wash with diluted Mane and Tail every 2 weeks then rinse with a teaspoon of acv in a big cup of water and seal with evoo then I do 'African Threading' with plastic string (doesn't absorb moisture or tangle) but when I take it out although there's less breakage/split ends the ends are still so THIN!
I tried trimming 3 months ago and it didn't help.
Are there any suggestions on how to strengthen my ends? What regiments work for you if you are a 4b/c?

Have you tried sealing your ends? I put hair butter at the end of my braids or twists to help protect my ends.

Agreeing with Dani F about sealing your ends with oil or butter. I also use a protein leave in conditioner made by Aveda. I minimize hair manipulation (wear mostly twist-outs and puffs). Finger detangle weekly. I do use a Tangle Teezer about once a month. No combs. I'm retaining length, so something must be working for me. Hope this helps.

It sounds like you're not getting enough moisture. Washing once every two weeks and spritzing only every 4-5 days would leave my hair bone dry.
Try washing your hair once a week with an SLS-free shampoo (I don't know what Mane & Tail has in it). Spritz with water daily or almost daily.
Do you use any kind of hairdressing (creams, lotions, etc.) or is it just the oil?"I wore twists outside for the first time and the world didn't explode. Hurray." - JaeFuma

Uhmmm, I used to use Mane and Tail and let me tell you, that stuff is chock full of protein. Even watered down, I would think that your hair (in its fragile state), might appreciate a gentler cleanse (shampoo bar maybe). I know that after using Mane and Tail for a couple of months (earlier in my nappy journey), my hair was hard and brittle and the ends were grabby and stuck out every which way. Changing to shampoo bars has turned that situation around for the best though.*Just a thought*

also what's your diet like? thinning ends can also be a sign of protein loss

Thank you everyone! Details and more questions (sorry for dragging this out)
I decided to try some of your suggestions and give it time to see the results. I'm going to answer you all in one reply if that's ok:
@Dani, I put a lot of olive oil on my ends after sealing my scalp (post-wash).
@Bijoks, I'll definitely try that. What kind of hair butter do you use?
@Meraki, I still wash every 2 weeks only because that's how long my hair holds the threading. I want to try washing in this style so I can try washing once a week. I stopped spritzing but I drink A LOT more water and my scalp doesn't feel as dry.
After shampooing I do a cholesterol deep condition and sometimes add a raw egg and comb through my hair then rinse it out and seal. I stopped using the acv rinse and might limit it to once a month instead of every time I wash.
I used to use hair grease when I was a teenager, then turned to spritzing with a mix of oil/water, now the only time I apply any hairdressing is right after washing my hair and it's oil only. A Jojoba and olive oil mix.
Which cream would you suggest (what works for you) ?
@KinksR4Me, I read what you said and switched from Mane and Tale to Moisture Milks shampoo and my hair feels a lot softer and more manageable!
@LolZilla, I'd say my hair is normal. It's thick, but gets described as "fluffy" or "soft to touch". It has swing or bounce when not in braids or twists. It tangles fairly easily, but once it's combed (during deep conditioning) it remains untangled for a long time even after rinsing and styling.
It's VERY porous (it takes about 3-5 minutes to begin shrinking when exposed to water, and almost 6 hours to day).
When braided it can hold a braid-out for almost 2 days. When I do a freeform fro after unbraiding it takes 5-6 hours to lose it's curl and take on a less forced shape.
I think my diet is good, but could be better. I drink a lot of water, but I don't become hungry until around 12 or 1 in the afternoon, so I mostly eat just lunch and dinner. I might have a carb snack during the day instead of lunch (muffin, pastry, cereal) and a full course meal for dinner. I try to have a balanced dinner (protein, carbs, and veggies), but I also like chips and candy in between. I've cut down on chips because I have high cholesterol but I have a major sweet tooth for candy. I've maintained a weight range of 112-116 since I was 16 (I'm mid-20's now).
I should be taking iron pills because I used to have an iron deficiency, and I am tired a lot so I have a hunch I still do. Although my diet is relatively balanced I'm not sure if I'm eating enough or eating what I need to.
I'm not sure if that answers all of your questions..

Thank you guys for your help.
Update on African Threading: I've noticed the ends are still thin but my hair has grown almost an inch in the past 3 months. When I remove the thread (still use plastic) my ends are tangled and frayed.
Can I wash my hair in this style, and what can I do to improve the quality of my ends with regard to styling?
When my hair is in puffs or twist-outs for too long it becomes weaker. Are there any options other than threading that won't further thin my ends? I feel limited like it's either braids, twists, or threading and none are workingLast edited by keykeyx100000; 07-27-2011 at 02:46 PM.

Well it's summer now, so I've switched from butters (usually a mix of cocoa/shea/coffee butters and oils) to the much lighter option of oil (coconut, olive or sapote (from Anita Grant)) I use the oil as a sealant after applying Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner.
Regarding your ends, are you able to unravel the ends of the threading, apply product and put the thread back yourself? If you can do that, then I would suggest periodically (maybe every 4- 7 days) unravelling the ends, spraying the hair with a concoction of water, leave-in conditioner and oil and then wrapping the ends up again. I think you have to figure out when your hair needs more protein versus when it needs more moisturizing.

you should maybe give soy/wheat based protein a try on the ends since the animal based stuff can be very drying. you also might want to look into a separate routine just for the ends. for instance you can use whatever leave in works for the rest of your hair all over, but then follow up with a separate application of something extra moisturizing just for the ends.
