Thumbs down "I only straighten for SPECIAL occasions" -_-

    *sigh*

Okay, so we've all heard a fellow Natural say this before: I only straighten my hair for special occasions.

Before going Naptural, I said this as well. "When I get to so n so length/goal, ima straighten it to see how it looks" (ugh!). I have since shed all inclination of doing so like a bad chemical fire cream. I no longer desire straight hair WHATSOEVER. But I've been thinking...why would we want to straighten our hair for cool events..why not ROCK IT in its best state during those times? It's as if some people consider straight hair a "treat" to look forward to. Ehh, to me, my Naptural strands in a cute style is a treat for me any day!!

So what say you? What're your views on the subject?

And, yes, this is the "Natural hair nazi"/Pro-Natural in me speaking. Lol.

LOL!! You will be hard pressed to get anyone on this board to say it's OK to straighten nappy hair on special occassions. This is a pro-nap, anti-straightening site.

BTW, OP is that you in the avatar? If so your hair is insane! My goodness....

I HATE that phrase. It always makes me at the speaker.

People don't realize what they're REALLY saying when they say it.

Once I decided to wear my natural hair no matter what anyone else thought, I was DONE with straight hair. There was no 'special occasion' ish with me. It was NATURAL HAIR, ALL DAY, EVERY DAY!!!!

I even get annoyed when looking at costume wigs.

Like OP, I have NOOOO desire to see my hair straight. That would only bring back bad memories of breakage, burnt hair smells, etc. I get the chills just thinking about it.
Special occasion hair for me is something out of my regular routine. When loose it was a big chunky twistout and now with locs, it's a curly bantu knot out.

Having posed a question where one side of the answers would be in breach of the board rules, you'll only get the opinions of those who share your point of view.

Well, at one point, I WAS that natural. I thought it would be bomb to see my hair straight, as it would be undeniably more healthy than it was when relaxed. And I actually did it. And...HATED IT! I wanted to keep it for at least a week so I could justify the heat usage. Didn't even last three days. I needed my 'fro back STAT!

I hope my comment didn't just get this thread banned...

No occasion is special enough to merit spending the next 4 years growing out heat damage to get back to where I am right now.
