    Default First wash and retwist

It's been 6 weeks and yesterday I did my first wash and I retwisted with fruit of the earth aloe vera gel and a few drops of jojoba oil mixed in, It's just not holding well at all!!! I used Jamaican lime and twist gel to start my locs and the hold was great, but I guess I wanted to use something more natural to to retwist with and now I feel like I've made a big mistake!!! will I have to wait 2 weeks to retwist and use something else or can I just wash and redo my twist today??? Help!!!

Maybe it's your technique? Check out this video. You can re-do it whenever you want. Just don't make a habit of retwisting too often.

You haven't made a big mistake, just a trial and error that's all. Totally normal. Maybe that method/those particular products aren't for you.

I make and use my own flaxseed (linseed) gel for retwisting my locs.

I'm a little wary about using product in my hair.Right now I moisturize with a water and very little conditioner spritz, on a daily basis. The only retwisting method I've used is by using the latch hook.Because I'm using that method (keep in mind,I began with 2-stand twists) should I not use any product?

Are you questioning using product for retwisting (or in your case, latching) or just for general moisturizing? I also latch and find that products aren't really necessary for retightening. I do moisturize w/almond and castor oil.
For the OP, did you use clips after twisting? I know Chesca doesn't use clips in the video, but she keeps her locs clamped down until they dry. That will probably help your restwists.

That's excellent advice. Unfortunately what the OP's done hasn't worked. Hence, this thread.

People don't have to use products to twist their hair. I don't. The main thing you're trying to do when you retwist is get your roots to hold together. I use a clip on each one at the roots and let them dry.

thank you- I used to go every two months without washing my hair so my hair dresser could do them... and then I started twisting them together with cholesterol... but that looks like a good way since they come out too much....
