The best way to get flat locs is by freeforming. this is not to say that every free former has flat locs. There is nothing wrong with flat locs - they are beautiful just like any other shape, as i have some myself. different strokes for different swimmers.
    -------------------

    loc tips:

    - brush your edges with castor oil for a nice shine and to also protect them. your edges are sensitive - protect them!
    - do a weekly lint check and pull out the lint with a tweezer if the lint balls are on the surface.
    - washing the hair w/ warm water with lint may open the cuticles and pull the lint in - use bentonite clay + acv to pull the lint to the surface and brush it off.
    - you can style your hair at any stage! look up youtube clips and be creative!

ive known people who've had locs for years/decades and they all trim their hair because of the weight issues. they also combined locs. you don't know which route you'll end up taking with locs. long hair is beautiful, but enjoy each phase of your locs. short hair is just as beautiful

^^ clarifying is good, just remember not to overdo it, as this will dry your locs our which is no bueno. and if you have dry locs, feel free to do hot oils/steam/conditioning treatment

Can u please advise why 'flat' locs are desirable? I've never heard of them until now so I'm curious...

Don't give up! Search for a solution before u decide to. Locs aren't for everyone but if u really want them, STICK WITH IT !

Take pics, lots of pics, to record how your hair changes. You may feel like your hair isn't doing anything, but the pics will tell otherwise.
