wow. LOL, i don't know then. i read that they don't put very close relatives in the ancestry finder thing, because it would block out the rest of the results that a person is most likely looking for, but they should still show up on the relative finder.

I'm upset! I got an e-mail today saying they couldn't extract enough DNA from my spit! It's "uncommon" for it to happen. (I think they lost my sample) So is there some type of technique for putting spit into the tube??? (Sounds silly, I know.) I have to do it again. Luckily they will have it analyzed within 2-3 wks. I'm all anxious to see what's in me.

at the time that i think most of us started this, there was a promotion going on for those who were black, and it was completely free. i think the promotion is gone now, though. i think therei s a way that you can have them contact you when they do another promotion. or, you can pay. the website is 23andme.com

This is absolutely facinating I would love to know what my genetic make up is. I commend you all for giving it a shot. An ex collegue of mine carried out a test for her husband and this white english guy had traces of Ethiopean in him. since then i have been intereted in doing it myself.

BUT for someone who is reluctant to put my pictures or real name up on the net i am just a little bit concerned about sending my DNA sample to an unlnown place and even more so now that I learn there was a free promotion specifically for black people. Maybe it is me being silly but I will keep following this thread - I may change my mind

they have a lack of data for people of african descent, and i don't mind contributing to the research.

my dad's came back, his his 56% African, 36% european and 7% asian

and they lost my husband's. or, rather "couldn't extract his genome". So they are sending him another one.

I am SO GLAD that, if one had to get lost between the two of them, then it was his and not my dad's. I would have never been able to get my dad to do that again.
