    Default Did your locs get lighter naturally?

    this is so weird. every year, my locs seem lighter. my dad and sister have red hair, and my mom has jet black hair. i started off having get black hair. i noticed that it lightened up a little bit as I got older, and last year i noticed that my locs looked a little light.

    well today, i was driving and i saw the sun on my head in the mirror and nearbout didn't even recognize myself. it's gotten even lighter since last summer.

    does this continue? i hope it doesn't reflect a lack of moisture or care or anything, because I remember my hair got a little lighter when I used relaxers, and i thought it was due to damage at the ends. I hope it's not damaged.

    My first set lightened over the years from the sun. I had some light brown and reddish locks mixed in. My hair is naturally dark brown. No damage. I thought it looked nice.

    Well i know while i was still getting perms, and before i started dyeing my hair....My hair would get a little reddish-brown. I would ask my mom why my hair was changing colors, she basically told me it was from sun exposure...i'm not really sure...

    Basically, it's what they said. The more time you spend in the sun, the lighter your hair will become, because the sun naturally bleaches you hair. It continues until your hair becomes a blondish color.

    I kinda jealous though...I want my hair to naturally lighten

    lol that's probably why every time i tried to dye my hair red....it would end up changing to a gold-blondish looking color....or does dye actually change colors over time?? hmmmm...

    It's probably the sun...when I was younger I would get red streaks on either side of my head every summer. I thought it was strange but cool.

    <sigh>

    Yes.....since being loc'd up for 5 years my hair is dark brown and gets lighter towards the end of my locs. In some cases the ends are blonde.

    My hair has gotten lighter over the past 2.5 years I have had my locs. It started off as jet black and now it has a lot of reddish brown in it.

    Ok, so glad to know that it's not damaged.

    i guess i'm shocked because my hair is very coarse and non-porous, and it is EXTREMELY difficult to get the color to lift when dyeing it. so I stopped trying to dye it. And now to see it so bright in the sun is just unexpected. Maybe a little, but not this much. It's nearly the color of my dad's and my sister's now.
