OK, here's the correct link to T-NC's blog post regarding international gun ownership numbers. The comment section is where the meat of the subject is. I'll add that he has the best moderated comment section out there, they actually add to whatever it is he's writing about.

I don't know what I'll say if I hear one more angry random customer waiting in line, parent, or coworker tell me, "If that healthcare law comes, I'm moving to Canada!!!!"

First, the law has been passed, so it's coming regardless of your whining.

Second, what the hayel do you think Canada's healthcare system is??? The threat is always about moving to Canada. I'm so done with the complaining.

I'm one of thousands of particular people who flagged with the NCIS, FBI, and DSAC for activism (as a potential terrorist). The declassified (heavily redacted) stuff I have doesn't acknowledge any federal efforts against my particular work but I'm confident with different intelligence that the State's full scale legal and enforcement attack on us was coordinated federally. It may take a few more appeals for us to get those records, if those won't be redacted beyond intelligence.

Folk will argue against my successes, but I've managed to not get anyone I've collaborated with arrested in the wake of NDAA revisions and the like. I can't say that I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen if my State stops trying to handle me and let's the Fed take a crack at it, but I'll try to be up for the challenge. You don't have to get ready if you stay ready, yah? I'm so fortunate to know better than to get caught up in that "we" stuff too. They've been mashing out folk who get caught up in that "us" stuff. No friends and no enemies, ftw.

    America's Missing Maternity Leave Policy

"The United States has no mandatory paid family leave policy, making it one of just three countries in the world and the only country in the first-world to not mandate paid maternity leave for new mothers (Swaziland and Papua New Guinea are the others)."

^Technically in Canada, fathers get 5 weeks of paternity leave, mothers get 50 weeks of parental leave. Before [general] you cry foul, even though I say mothers, both parents can split the parental leave (it still has to add up to 50 weeks) at either 55% or 70% of the salary depending if you live in my province or the rest of Canada. They can take it concurrently or consecutively. I do know a guy who stayed home because his wife was a teacher and had to grab a job that came along otherwise she's lose her seniority and in his case it was advantageous he was because he's military and we cover the difference to bring the payments to 93% of our salaries.
