New Season, New Thread - BASKETBALL Cometh!
I know most folks are in football mode but I'm not, I'm completely hyped that Media Day(s) are upon us, the Lakers are debuting a new TV station tomorrow, pre-season starts at the end of the week and the season starts in less than a month. For a Basketball fan like me it seems like it's been 15 years since last season (I feel like this every year and I thought I was going to die with the lockout last season).
Let's Go!

This season has been a mess and now Dr. Buss is gone.

I am a certified, card-carrying LAKER HATER- and I'm bummed out about Kobe's injury. This could be a career ender for him. I know this is not how he wanted to leave and I feel bad for him. Honestly, I'd rather see him retire early and not return because if he does, he will most likely end up like Larry Bird, Pat Ewing, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, etc... who all played well beyond their expiration date and looked like pitiful shells of thier former selves as they limped up and down the court.
Kobe, right now, is the best player to come along since Jordan and I would hate to see him go out like that. He has 5 rings, and he's old in "basketball years." He needs to retire while he still has his dignity and before he does irreparable damage to his body by trying to come back from this injury.~Love the hair you have~

Well Dominique Wilkins came back after I torn Achilles and played five more successful seasons and in fact he made the All-Star team two of the five years. (Yes I am that much of a basketball geek that I know that)
I hated Kobe desperately early in his career and I just had to tolerate him because I'm a lifelong Laker fan and because they were winning you know but as a person I've come to like him much more. I like the adult Kobe as a player and as a person.
So I'm hoping he can come back and go out on his own terms, but I agree that I hope he doesn't keep going when the jig is obviously up. Like if he can come back next season have a successful season and then call it a day I would feel really happy for him.
Right now as a Lakers fan I have to say I'm in a little bit of a mourning phase... But we'll be okay.

The disappointment I have about the Lakers season (although I was pleased we made the Playoffs) is being assuaged by the other teams that are being knocked out/advancing. Glad to see the Paperclips & the Celtics go bye-bye yesterday, happy to see the Knicks & the Bulls advance.
