Mental Health Field...
Anyone in the mental health field? Anyone have a master's in mental health? What did you do with it? What are you planning on doing with it?
I am starting my master's in mental health counseling in March. I am very excited!! I am going to go into business for myself and open my own practice/organization and travel the U.S. spreading knowledge to middle and high school kids.
Maybe we can help and encourage one another.

Congratulations on starting your program in March. I hope to some day pursue psychology also. Consider looking into:
-Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)
-Martin Seligman's work on Positive Psychology
-Aaron Beck's work on Cognitive Behavioral TherapyNo one can make you feel inferior without your consent. -Eleanor Roosevelt

Your path to psychology sounds interesting and tough at the same time.

congrats on starting your program soon! I'm in a clinical psychology master' s/PhD program. I finish in 2014. I'd like to do research in academia or private industry, while running a practice specializing in body image and eating issues.

I worked as a mental health counselor and absolutely HATED it!!!! Very stressful, low pay, long hours and a lot of unethical business practices I saw (at least where I was)

Well its not for everyone! I am going into practice for myself and starting a non-profit.
There are many areas to consider. Maybe the area you were in wasn't that great? Idk.
Hopefully you'll find something more your speed in another field.

I'm currently completing a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy. Got my master's in Counseling and Human Systems with a specialization in School & Mental Health Counseling. Did school counseling for a few years before accepting that the kind of work I really wanted to do couldn't be done as a part of a public K-12 school. So I went back for my PhD. I chose Marriage and Family Therapy because of the systemic focus on relational patterns of functioning, as opposed to a focus on individual dysfunction.
My license will initially be in Mental Health counseling, however, because I am closer to meeting the requirements for Mental Health. I'll add my MFT licensure later. I intend to continue doing therapy - now for an agency, later in my own practice - and to continue teaching on the college level (I really enjoy both). I may also engage in some research activities.

Sounds good CC!
I am getting this degree, but will use it in an unconventional way. What I mean is, I am going to open my own practice/non-profit and use unconventional ways to connect with my clients whether through art, music, animals, pottery, etc.
