I wish I had not messed up my credit so badly in the past 5-6 years. I am having such a difficult time buying a car. I need to fix my credit, starting now. But how?!?!

^^ i believe that paying off my credit card in chunks, rather than just above the minimum really worked to increase my score.

i am giving 50 pre tax each pay paycheck for 403b plan
discover raised my credit limit just when i was paying off in chunks. i see that they did there :-P

Problem is, I don't have a credit card. LOL! My score is bad because of medical bills and late payments on my old car loan. One of the reasons I keep getting turned down for a new car loan, besides my credit score, is a lack of revolving credit. My bank told me to get a secured credit card to help boost my score and get revolving credit on my report.

oh, i never knew revolving credit had that kinda effect on credit score, but that sounds pretty right now that i think of it. you should def go that route if it is open to you. i would take out a card and buy something for less than 50 and pay it off by the end of the month

Yeah, I tried to avoid getting credit cards, because I didn't want to get trapped with debt. I didn't realize not having one would be such an issue... especially since I bought my 1st car without having one on my credit report. Oh well!! I have to deposit $300 on the card to get started, so hopefully I can do that in the next 2 weeks.

So Fifth Third Bank wants to charge all these fees for checking--most of the new accounts have minimum requirements and if you can't meet them, you'll be charged $11 a month. The account that I want has no balance/monthly fees but still requires direct deposit of $500 a month...so if I can't do that, I wonder if there'll still be a monthly fee? Why am I even holding onto this account when it's not my primary one?

I really need to close this account and move everything to my other account. I could do a credit card balance transfer from 5/3 to previous account, but how much will the fee be? And I just did a balance transfer from previous bank to 5/3. Arrrrrggghhhh!

Getting a secured credit card will help building a positive credit history. I would also check out www.creditboards.com reading the posts there helped me understand and take the steps towards getting my credit in order some years back.

my random thought: sooooo...am I the only person that didnt know AAA members got a discount at UPS? (5% generally, and 15% for "select services"!)
