    Default Natural Hair WHOOPS! moment...

I really don't know how to take this and I'm kinda glad my grandbaby is unaware. I love natural hair and will always TEACH a preference for it. So my daughter "did" my grandbaby's hair for dance class, and put two cute bows in it. So I posted some side by side pix, and wrote "my grandbaby got her hair "did", NOW and then" and a picture of her younger with an afro...

weirdly...I got the most likes of anything I ever posted...I think...even a couple dudes...so was it the hair...did she become cute-er...was the straight hair better...it's like I did a subliminal punch in the face to myself....It's clear how girls are indoctrinated about straight long hair....
Instigating and waiting for the REVOLUTION to begin!

And this is why I haven't straightened my hair in almost 10 years...

This further solidifies my decision to not straighten my daughters' hair (or mine either) any time soon. While I could handle the comments and extra attention long, straightened hair tends to bring - especially after you've been wearing it in its natural state - my girls are still in crucial stages of identity development and could be negatively affected by that kind of attention. Right now ( they're 9 & 13) they both love their natural hair, and don't want relaxers, nor do they ask to have their hair straightened (well, rarely, the 13 year old has asked a couple times). I want to keep it that way for as long as I can!!

Sad that it's like that, though!

It's a constant reprogramming comment I have to make when my nieces hair is "done". Natural hair is like a fierce lion!!!! "Done" hair is down to her waist. Constantly gets compliments on it. To which, if they are said in my presence, I reply, "but it's gorgeous in its natural state too."

I just know the best influence on her is my example. Increases my determination to rock my natural hair and let my deep love for it be what I show her. She's watching.

If I have kids I will never straighten their hair, thanks to YouTubers such as GirlLoveYourCurls I have found tones of ways to style natural hair sans flatiron.
