    Default 2011 macbook pro

Is it too old to buy? As long as I can get updates for a while I'm willing to buy it.

I think it's ok. I'm not really a techie person. But I have been using Macs for the last 4 years. One of my coworkers uses an '04 Mac and hhis works just as good as mine.

If you're just looking for a good machine that can work for a bit it could be fine. Buying a 2011 model is going to leave you with no way to get it fixed or replaced if something goes wrong.

Unless it's budget that's driving you why not get a newer model? You can check things like MacMall.com or even Apple.com's special deals section on their site of refurbished items (those all come with one year of Apple Care just like their brand new products.)

Thank you ladies. I can afford to get a new one, but it would be nice to have bought a slightly older one for a smaller price tag. Also the Mac in question has AppleCare until 2015. What do you think? Just get the new one?

Heh. I missed the post before your last but it looks like you decided to go new anyway. It's probably best as it's your machine and it's really more fun to have a shiny new toy. Welcome to the Mac cult. I was thrilled to come back a few months ago too.

Well that depends on where you are i know a few places in LA and at least one place in New York that specializes in working on old Macs. Add a 2011 really isn't that old were getting parts should be a problem you just can't go into the Apple Store and do anything. They would have to send it back to the factory. But if you call Apple or go to an authorized Apple third-party dealer it should be okay.

I actually just sold an old PowerBook G4 so the model that came out right before they switched over to the MacBook line and it's fine you know. The person needed a basic cheap machine and the machine works great and he's happy and it'll be fine for a while until he can afford better.

But throughout most of my Mac ownership I've owned used machines - up until the last few years when I could afford the latest models. I've never had any particular problems doing so.

EDIT- Oh well nevermind then ha ha congratulations on your new baby & Welcome to the Mac fam.
