    Hm...

I don't like conditioner-only. Although I do not shampoo as much as I condition, I feel that I need shampoo in order to get rid of residue so my scalp can breathe.

I love conditioner. I don't use shampoo. Can't remember the last time I did. Conditioner + elbow grease are enough for me to get dirt and oil/vaseline residue out of my hair. Cheapie conditioners are a no no for my hair, though. Suave and VO5 do not get along with my hair. Aussie Moist, HEHH, and Tresemme Naturals are the best for my hair.

I'm trying a no creamy conditioner experiment for a few months since I cut my locs down and have a lot of open ends. After shampoo I use olive or argan oil only. So far the hair is fine.

I do like Conditioner - it's my primary moisturizing tool since my hair does not like oil or oil based products - but even at that it isn't a essential. I go through long periods of just rinsing and my hair is fine without conditioner. Every now and then my hair absolutely puts its foot down and demands a deep conditioning treatment but I definitely don't need conditioner everyday, in fact my hair likes it better if I don't apply or co-wash daily. (particularly, like Dee mentioned, my hair is fine so over-use makes my hair limp and I also have an oily scalp so over-use makes my scalp gunky)

I have to second what Napia Mia said. I stopped using conditioner years ago and my hair has thanked me for it. Conditioner makes my hair dry, crunchy, limp, and dull. Without conditioner my hair is soft, supple, sheeny, and bouncy.

Just wanted to check in. It's now June, and I'm still going strong on the no conditioner treatment on my fluffy locs. I've noticed my hair is still very soft and moisturized for many days after a wash. I have barely any tangling and breakage, just normal shedding.

I wash weekly and it's so much better than when I was washing monthly (I was conditioner or water washing between shampoo washes for a long while ago, but I don't think it was helping my scalp nor hair much). I currently detangle with avocado & grapeseed oils, and I seal with a wee bit of grapeseed oil mixed with castor oil. My scalp is barely ever flaky or itchy since I've stopped using conditioner.

Shampoo bar wash, maybe a dc with egg & oil here or there, tea rinse, oil, detangle, style, and I'm done.

I don't use rinse-out conditioners 'cause I don't need them. I do use leave-in conditioners and moisturizing creams though.

For a couple of years, my hair care routine was as follows: detangle/pre-poo with coconut oil, shampoo scalp, ACV and/or Tea Rinse, moisturize/seale, stretch, style. My hair was healthy -- It was soft, fluffy, sheen-y and retained length.

Now, I do the following: detangle with water/glycerin spritz and coconut oil, pre-poo w/ DIY Aloe-Castor Hair Mask (LOTD Whole Leaf aloe vera gel/castor oil/glycerin) or Shea Moisture Purification Masque, shampoo scalp, Tea Rinse (optional), moisturize/seal, stretch and style.

My hair would be just fine without commercial conditioners. I'm just fond of slip and softness Shea Moisture Purification Masque provides. It's really a simple hair masque -- water, aloe vera juice, oils, butters & kaolin clay -- no fatty alcohols, silicones or other stuff that's usually in most store-bought conditioners.

I also like doing tea and/or herbal hair rinses. Right now, I'm experimenting with hibiscus and marshmallow root. Catnip is next on my list as it has some conditioning properties.

Coming back to this thread after a couple months and a brief affair with storebought and homemade shampoos and conditioner, I realize that conditioner only works for me when I use shampoo. And I'm much better off without shampoo.

I think I'll have the occasional fling, when I'm seduced by a new product. But shampoo and conditioner are literally money down the drain for me.
