^ What do you mean by "it stirred something up"? Do have the diva cup? If it's a different one made of latex, then it could be a latex allergy. Did it open entirely?

with pads, since the fluid flows externally to a paper cloth, the smell is diffused.
whereas with a cup/tampon its internal.
    from the dc website:
"Menstrual flow only begins to develop an odor when it is exposed to air. As The DivaCup is worn internally, your days of worrying about period odor are over. Menstrual fluid on tampons and pads is exposed to air which creates odor throughout the day. For the first time, The DivaCup will leave you feeling fresh and confident the entire day!"

i am still getting the hang of my cup. i still have accidents so i have to wear light pad. i sometimes forget to turn it once its in there until it's fully open. i have no accidents taking it out since im extra careful. i feel cleaner using this eco-friendly technique.
Welcome to cup using . That's true about the smell. When I used pads, I used to think I had an infection because of the intensity of the smell. After many years, it reduced greatly, though. With cups, there's only the metallic smell of iron, but, if I leave it in for like 18 hours, there'll be a smell . It doesn't fill up all the way for after even 24 hours, but I have to change it after 12 to avoid the smell.

I never turn my cup. Grabbing onto a slick sup to turn it is hard anyway lol. If it pops open, then I don't worry about turning it. I run my finger around it to make sure that it's not concave anywhere.

Here's a video showing insertion techniques:

I haven't noticed a smell from me either...I totally forgotten about the smell and I'm so grateful for that<3

I remember when I was in middle & high school, I always use to get the "what smells like fish?" comments during my cycle. I would shower twice a day, change pads frequently, and wear a lot of body powders & perfumes, but nothing could cover up that obnoxiously mild funk. Aww...those pre-cup dark days.

I only had my cup for two years, but I'm going to get another one just for the heck of it. I want to get a colored cup that is glittery and prettiful.

    hey ladies
this may be common sense to most
but avoid/watch out for the caffeine. i just had a cup of yerba mate and my dc overflowed (i noticed this correlation before with caffeine + menustral cycles but ignored it) and my cramps worsened

Pretty cup! I'd be worried about all that glitter getting stuck inside, though lol.

These things still vex my spirit.
I can't imagine it being comfortable inside of me...

^^ They are, though! I was scared of them until I got one. Insertion hurt the first few times, but it was always comfy once inserted.

^^I couldn't either, but once it's inside, I never feel mine unless it's full. Then it's really uncomfortable, to be honest.

I'm thinking of getting a new cup because a)I've had mine for at least 4 years now and b)I think I need to get one of the newer ones with stronger material. I've had some leakage issues off and on and I'm not really enjoying that at all...partially because as I get older, I bleed more and partially because I think my (TMI) walls are strong enough to make the cup collapse sometimes...damn yoga and kegels...
