Can people stop making analogies of race where white people and people of color are interchangeable?! White people and People of Color have different histories of power, so it is problematic to interchange them in an analogy as if they are equal.

I just saw Mrs. Biden regarded as the Second Lady. If Palin became VP, what would her husband have been addressed as? Second Lord? First Lord? Hrmm. We might have a hiccup.

ETA: It's Gentleman. Intriguing how it would work as far as numerical order though. I think it would have still been Second Gentleman. I saw Vice-First Lady so Vice-First Gentleman might be less dicey.

Is anyone watching "Advancing the Dream: LIve from the Apollo" on MSNBC right now? I'm enjoying this a lot. Stevie Wonder just said that when people told him he couldn't do something because of the color of his skin, he'd tell them "Well, I can't relate to that because I've never seen color anyway".

They've got Magic Johnson, Tyler Perry, Lisa Price, creator of Carol's Daughter, and Cathy Hughes, who works on Wall Street.There's also Newark mayor Cory Booker, Condoleeza Rice and one more guy, but I didn't catch his name. They were all talking about the racist and sexist struggles they've have had to overcome and how they've maintained their faith in their dreams. In Stevie's case, he talked about having three counts against him- blind, Black, and poor. They discussed what needs to be done for Black American people to become more independent and empowered.
