I once read that if a cat's claws are trimmed very close to the quick at frequent intervals, they will eventually stay very short.
It is key to get your pet used to at-home claw-trims while it is a kitten; otherwise end up like my household: needing to go to the veterinarian to have it done.
We didn't aim for this initially, but now I have some serious redecorating projects in mind, so will insist that my son [he wanted the cat] keep up the vet schedule if he wants to keep the animal -
because of course we have ended up with scratches when the cat was younger, and cat-torn furniture/carpets/screens are ongoing issues.
Apart from that, our cat is a wonderful pet.
