This post was exactly what I needed! I am 5 weeks in and I was worried about my parts being all over the place. I started my locs on my own by just grabbing and twisting, and each time I wash (once a week), I worry about messing up something that is already messy. Part of me wants to free-form or semi-free form at this point, but I'm still thinking about it. So the bottom line is, parts don't really matter, it's all about personal preference... got it!

Ok, so I will breathe easy and STOP obsessing over parts, LOL! I often wonder how tightly pulled the hair is when I see the intricate styles with flawless parts and I CANNOT withstand much pulling on my scalp as it sends my SD into OVERDRIVE and I end up with scaly patches that ultimately ooze and weep, so I plan to try to keep SOME semblance of parting, but not worry too much about it if possible.

That seems the best way to go. You can clean up parts when retwisting, so locs don't pickup hair from all over, without having them tightly twisted.

everyone likes nice parts... I think if you had a clear plan from start to finish of what they were supposed to look like then parts wouldn't matter...
