Default Coloring your own hair before loc installation

I colored my first set of locs last year feb 2012. It was a permanent dye so I still have some color in my hair that I don't mind having. However, I want to color my loose hair before I loc my hair.

I plan to do this myself. I plan on using Dark and Lovely's Golden Bronze. Before I used Red Hot Rhythm.

Is is it safe to color hair on top of color before locking my hair?
Will I be safe following the instructions on the box?
because part of my hair is another color will that part turnout lighter?
I was going to purchase the dye tomorrow and color my hair this Saturday so I have some time to deep condition my hair (which I highly doubt will make a difference) before I color my hair next week Saturday.

Any good hair dye tutorials recommended. As far as parting the hair? Stuff like that?

    Thanks.

I colored my loose hair before I locked. I´m now around 22 months locked. I also used Dark and Lovely, but don´t remember right now, which colour. I wouldn´t put a permanent color on top my my old colour. It will just weaken the loc/hair....
The majority of my locs are black, but I have some of the colour left, and it looks very nice. I´ve also noticed that the locs that have no colour are spongy to the touch, while the coloured ones are not.
Look up youtube for hair videos for natural black hair...Here´s one to start you off, and good luck with the colour and locs.
    Post some pics after....
