Awren, I feel you, this post speaks to my life as well. I am coordinating my father's care, all by myself, long distance, cause I cant afford to leave my job right now (im the breadwinner), but my father needs 24/7 care after a series of brain damaging strokes and subsequent brain surgery. He has to learn how to do everything all over again and has many setbacks and the only one there to help me is his 80 year old friend/neighbor. Sigh. I know im not the only one who has had to go through this but I do feel alone sometimes. My husband has been my rock and I love him so much for it, but I feel like I have the world on my shoulders. My job has been ok, but im still filing for FMLA knowing that I cant afford to use it but I need it to secure my job. Oh and not only am I handling my father's care, Im also coordinating his divorce and his house foreclosure. Sigh.

I'm sorry to hear that Dovechild20. It's difficult enough to care for a person, but to have to manage their divorce???? Geez!! My husband was released from the hospital earlier this evening. He's still a fall risk and now can't be left alone. We haven't used home health-until now. I have to work. I have to maintain our insurance-which means I have to work. I'd love to spend every single minute with him, but I can't. He's scheduled for brain surgery to debulk the tumor next week. I'm afraid and tired, but I'm so very grateful to have him still in my life. He makes me better :-)

    Hello everyone,
My father died in March '15, but not as a result of his Alzheimer's (which by the date of my last post, we didn't know). Mom is still living at home...thankfully my younger sister is the primary caregiver. It's hard to help long distance, but so thankful we have family support.

    Thanks Savvyone, NM and SR.

It's almost one year since Dad's passing, and it's hard. Last night, my husband and I were having dinner out. I look on my FB feed and see all kinds of pictures of my niece's wedding...and how happy everyone appears in them. Then I think of Dad, and I break down, right there in the restaurant.

I realize that I will learn how to live without the physical form of him. I am so glad that the memories of him I have and will sustain me as long as I live.

    Hey y'all!
    Awren: how have you been?

Well...my sisters and I are now arranging for Mom to move into independent living. Thankfully, she's ok with the idea of the move, which will be near me in central OH. It's not even 10 minutes from where I live.

I wonder who will take the move harder...me, Mom or my younger sis (who has been the primary caregiver).
