Loc Veterans
After reading the Loc Challenge Part II section and noticing how many have stated that they plan on going past the 10 yr. mark, I am really considering being loced for life. During this time, if I become tired of the same look I may cut and wear them short, because I have become lazy and I really am enjoying the freedom. I have had my locs for 5 yrs. I'm not going to lie, there have been times when I have thought of going loose again (I was loose for six yrs.), but then I look in the mirror and say no way. I know Debee has stated that she plans on keeping her locs. Has anyone else thought that they will probably be loced for life also?

That's always been my plan since starting my locks. While I am sometimes tempted to trim, the thought of cutting them completely off rarely occurs to me. I'm in it for the long haul.
Like you, there may be times I cut my locs into a a style to switch things up, but as of right now, I highly doubt I'll ever be loose again.http://www.nappturality.com/forum/pi...972292&thumb=1 http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/...58/184/7ba.gifRevelation 21:4 - Psalm 51 - Psalm 121 - Ephesians(All words typed above are my experience and/or opinion, please feel free to agree or disagree....just please, do so without malice.)Loc'ed: 19/NOV/08 - Love ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~NP Convert since 06/08

I plan on staying loc'd for life. Right now I'm on my 3rd set which is my longest lived set (10 months). When I was loose in between the first two sets, I wasn't happy having loose hair anymore. I had been loose for almost 2 years before attempting my first set. I can see myself deciding to start a brand new loc journey one day but I'm pretty certain I'm done with loose hair.

I think about cutting quite often. I convince myself not to use the scissors by remembering the hours it would take me to style my hair.

While I expect to be locked for life, I've not set it as a goal, it's more that I love locs and as I've pretty much done all the experimenting, chopping and changing thing that I wanted to do, the time seemed right. I've always loved locs, but didn't think I could have them as I really need to have a good air flow on my scalp, which doesn't seem possible with organic locs - at least not to the extent that my scalp needs. Discovering Sisterlocks solved that little problem So now I have them I don't see me giving them up. The ease of just trowing them up or back and running out the door, is just too much of a luxury for me to give up easily.
That said, it doesn't have to be a hard and fast decision, you can just keep on keeping on until you feel like doing something different. Maybe you'll never feel like taking them down, maybe you will, either way can be just fine. The Zen approach
In terms of wanting a change, for me the changing length as they grow provides change, as I'm learning different styles as the length changes, so I'm not bored with them. I've also trimmed my locs several times, changing the overall shape, I've used henna, now I'm trying Indigo. I play and experiment with them when the mood hits, but most of the time I'm not paying attention to them.
I've just recently been toying with the idea of bleaching and colouring the ends of the very lowest layer, to give a fringe of colour along the hemline of my locs. Not too sure yet if that's going to happen, but there are ways of changing locs without having to take them down.

If I get rid of my locs I will stick to a bright red TWA. After being 8 years locked I have no plans to give them up, when I want a change I give them a trim

Hya,
Hadn't planned to be locked for life but 14 yrs in I cant imagine not having locs. I did toy with the idea of 'taking them down' about 7yrs ago as I was bored but instead they got a good cut and a bit of colour. Like Denny this seems to be my modus operandi (When I want a change I give them a trim)
Having Locs made me realise I dont actually like having super long hair, so keeping them just above bra strap length for comfort and ease of styling is the reason they are still here 14yrs in.

As of now I think I'll have my locks for life and just cut them when they get too long. I love just being able to wash and go.
