Hair condition after locs
I took my locs down and was left with about 3 inches of hair which I then took down to 2. I'm having some issues with breakage. When I run my fingers through my hair I have about 50 little curls on my hand. I currently use luv naturals shampoo and conditioner and leave in then I seal with jojoba oil. I deep condition once every two weeks with shea moisture deep treatment masque. Am I doing the right things? Is having this amount of breakage normal? Is it so little that I don't need to worry about it?

Yes it happens often when locs are taken down.
What has happened is that your hair shafts have been weakened through a loss of elasticity. Your main goal here is to restore some elasticity back into the strands to minimize breakage. Read this article to start: Hair Elasticity which will give you some starters.
And be very gentle with your hair when styling until the elasticity is restored.

Thank you very much for the info. Are there any particular ingredients that I should look for when buying a protein treatment?

This is NOT a shameless plug
On my old blog for years 2011-mid 2013 there's feedback on my process of taking down my locks, care for loose hair etc. I'm locked up again but because I copiously over conditioned my hair with castor oil and olive oil with locks, my hair was in excellent condition and longer than my locks when I loosed my hair. From my interactions, those that stayed away from moisturizing agents seem to have hair that was stressed upon take down-but there are always exceptions to the rule. There's a downside to what I did but there's no easy formula, only balance. Happy reading!
