Loved her. Just the thought of her no longer being "among us" makes me sad.

    The caged bird sings
    with a fearful trill
    of things unknown
    but longed for still
    and his tune is heard
    on the distant hill
    for the caged bird
    sings of freedom.

Be free and rest easy Ms. Angelou.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Those words get me through some tough times. RIP you extraordinary soul.

I remember reading my mother's copy of "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" when I was about 11 or 12. It made such an impression on my young mind. Every little black girl at some point needs to read that book.

I was gifted I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and her Book of poems when I was 12. Both works were life changing for me. I was also fortunate enough to see her perform some of her poetry live when I was 13. She's one of the few public figures that I have drawn true inspiration from. Her books should be required reading in schools. Her legacy is an amazing one and will truly have a lasting impact for generations to come. She will be missed.

Heard the news first thing this morning when I was in the shower.

    RIP, Maya Angelou.
