Just thought I'd drop this in here...if you're on Facebook, there's a group called Multilingual Black Americans that has a lot of resources, links and support info.

Living abroad? Thinking of moving, or just moved back? Check out the Expat Nappies group!

    Don't forget to THANK PANK!

Honestly, I talk to myself! I read aloud in different languages, repeat after actors in foreign language tv shows, and speak with friends over Skype at least once a month. I also try to attend spanish language church services and go to bible study. You meet so many people that way!

My main struggle has been to keep my tongue nimble, especially for Spanish. Reading aloud and mimicking actors helps keep my pronunciation and accent on track.

Neat! And you probably get exposed to vocab that isn't typically used in the classroom! You got me wondering if there are any Spanish Bible study groups in my area (that are inclusive of learners from other faith traditions)...

I've started using the Duolingo app to brush up on my French. I'm rustier than I thought! It's a good learning tool though.

You get to hear the "real" language that way. Not that that takes the place of book learning. Most of us don't speak "right" in our personal lives so we have to be careful. But the speech patterns and vocabulary you'll learn are great for your language abilities.

I've found bible study to be more about a sense of community than pure religion. I'm sure you could find a place to fit your needs!

I was using that Duolingo app to learn German. But do not have anyone to communicate with. If anyone learning or already knows German would like to partner up and motivate each other this would be fantastic.

NancyjaneCarol, you can sign up on conversation exchange and Skype with people who speak German and want to learn/improve their English. Good luck!
