I had a lot of breakage after my daughter was born. I combed my locks out and got Sisterlocks, which looked good for three years, then progressed to more breakage. I twisted/braided them together and have used extensions, prostheses and other creative techniques to keep the appearance of having hair going. Who knows how long this will last?

I started my first and second set myself. I cut my first set after 5 years because I started to wonder how it would be living as a loose natural. I went to an African shop and had my beloved dreads partically cut and partially picked out. Subsequently I hated being loosey natural. I stuck that out for 1 year but I found it intolerable. I was always a freeform dread head, so I missed the carefree lifestyle of being loc'd. I got my second second set of dreads over a year ago and plan to stay loc'd forever.

I am still wearing my first set, but I have cut off two headed dragons and kept them. The first time I threw away locks were when I cut some long layers into the front of my locks. I was about to save them too, but stopped and asked myself why I was saving them? I was really attached to the locks in a way I never experienced with loose hair. Trimmings and hair balls went right in the garbage without a second thought. I threw those locks away but I still have the rest of the locks I was saving.

No. One one hand, I'm kinda upset I didn't, but on the other, I'm glad I didn't. There was just too much negativity and tragedy wrapped up in that particular set, and I needed to release it. I wore my hair loose for about a year, but decided it took too much time after the convenience of locs. So here I am now, 6 months into my new set, which are smaller than my previous set so...it wouldn't have worked out anyways.

I'm on my second set. My first set was done at a salon, the stylist jacked me up and gave me what she thought was good and not what I wanted, I asked for square pencil size locs and she carved random shapes in the back of my had and ended with squares and rectangles in the front (I was possessed). So I took the first set down in March and had my cuz start the second set.
