    Question Awful embedded lint issue

Hello all. I was not being observant and initially posted this to the 'an experience that needs to be shared' thread only to notice the thread itself is from 2010 and the last post from 2014! So apologies for the repetition!

I currently have a depressing amount of embedded lint in my (6ish year old ) locs which seems to have crept up on me. Admittedly I have recently been a bit slap dash about wrapping my hair at night ( I have just moved house and it has been chaotic!) and my scarf has slipped off a few times during the night. I usually do ACV rinses every 2 or 3 months andown wash my hair fortnightly. I use JML to twist.

I have had slight lint issues in the past but nothing as serious as this. What is so surprising is how suddenly it has all appeared.

I did an ACV/baking soda rinse last weekend and bought a clarifying shampoo; will also do a very hot water rinse this weekend. I really want to avoid colouring it as I am terrified of the dye not washing out properly.

I also heard a vodka rinse helps- has anyone tried this before?

I hope my efforts pay off- if anyone has experienced this as well I'd love to hear how you resolved it. I can post photos if this is helpful.

    Thank you!

I'm dealing with it too! I wasn't vigilant about wearing a headcovering at night. I use a pushpin to pick out the lint from the ends. I also used it to pick out lint from the middle of the loc, but I weakened it so I've stopped that. Now I'm using color and black markers to cover the rest and learning from my mistakes.

If the lint is truly embedded in the lock, you won't be able to get it out short of physically digging it out (and damaging the locks). If the lint is visible, you'll have to keep your hair dyed to hide it.

Hello, just a quick update- I'm pleased to report that the embedded lint issue has improved tremendously. I tried a few things like soaking my hair in very hot water for a few minutes, with a bit of bicarbonate of soda and ACV rinses and thorough weekly washes with a clarifying shampoo. I also added a bit of vodka to my shampoo as well.

I also tried to cover the lint with black marker but gave up as I couldn'the get to all the spots. Perhaps the lint was not as embedded as I initially thought but all this helped a lot and it looks much better; I didn't have to get it dyed (not for that reason, anyway, I did dye my gray patch!).

Of course there is still a bit of lint but it seems like a more manageable and reasonable amount. I'm just much more vigilant covering my hair at night and when I'm doing housework.

    Thanks for the advice!

I had this issue once my locs grew to shoulder length and began to loc. I only got lint at the tips and only in the winter when i had to use scarves. I hate covering my head, especially at night. I try to use a satin cap when I`am in the house, especially when I`am cleaning or crafting.

yes, it's a hug issue. i have it too..i also take the time to clean and inspect. by the time most of us reach shoulder length we are not used to caring for our hair anymore and ignore it. so we have to be intentional.
