Freaking out about starter locs

That is good that you are taking pictures of your journey. So many changes occur with locs at first that length comes later. It is kind of like a caterpillar going through a metamorphosis and turning into a totally different insect. Locks puff up, then tighten, then begin to show length. Mine look totally different than from day 1 or even the first year. They do teach us to be patient.

I experienced this anxiety before and after starting my locs. I combed out my first attempt after about 2 months because I wasn't happy with the parting or number the loctitian gave me. She was lazy and didn't consider what I wanted. I told her I wanted between 120 and 150 but I ended up with like 110. I started them again nearly two years later and for two weeks I was reparting them myself because I think she got impatient at the front and started making them bigger. They are still somewhat varied in size but it's really hard to tell because my hair is so thick and full. I have about 210. They are pretty much settled in now but when I started I didn't know what I was going to get. They are a little smaller than I had planned but it's fine. Overall I am very happy with my locs.
