I find this thread interesting, but being from the UK, much of it is strange to me. Growing up there wasn't the same issues I read about on the forum. During my school days, I only recall seeing one person with relaxed hair, it was described as "cold straightened". I was amazed that there was a way of straightening hair other than a While there were plenty who straightened with a hot comb, I don't recall anyone who never wore their natural texture regularly. The hot comb was for special occasions for most people who used it.

Now the good/bad hair thing was alive and well, feeding on our collective psyche.

Now I see so many girls with their weave and wigs. There are far more than I saw growing up, who don't wear their natural texture, but there are still plenty who do. I still see it as a fashion accessory same as I always have, but there are more using it than there was.

Having a different history from the States, I think we'll always have more of a mix in terms of natural, trying to imitate somewhat real looking and straight out I'm-not-even-pretending-it's-real type ways of wearing hair.

    Resurrection time!
I see a lot of forks in the road. By this, I mean that just like today, there will be people who continue to relax, flat-iron, or wear straight weaves. On the other hand, the internet has made it tremendously easier to seek advice and healthier ways to care for afro-textured hair, regardless of its state. I believe natural hair is here to stay... but it also seems that weaves have replaced relaxers, which in the past had replaced hot combs/flat-irons as the "biggest trend." At work (I work at a grocery store), I see families come in with little girls with damaged, broken off relaxed hair, followed by families with kids with thick and healthy natural hair, followed by families with little girls wearing weaves (sometimes as young as kindergarten or first grade age).

I think that natural hair is here to stay, however, many straight hair lovers use blowouts and straightening combs instead of getting a relaxer. I also notice many women are still getting weaves, but more of them are getting natural textured weaves. I have noticed that the weave stores have been offering kinky hair for the changing tastes.

This may not speak to the future of natural hair, but it "speaks" to the resurgence of the natural hair movement.

Well years from now I know for sure that anyone who is natural now including myself, will not be bald.

    Hello,

Here in France, there are many young black girls who wear their hair in its natural state, have youtube channels, but I also see more and more women wearing weaves and wigs, sometimes these black women give up the relaxers , go natural but you never see their real hair, they wear "protective styles" (as they put it) but only with fake hair.

In 10 or 20 years from now , the decline will continue for relaxers but there will be more and more " afro weaves and wigs" I think....
After 8 years of locks , back to loose hair!!
