What are some natural hair "rules" that you break?
Disclaimer: This post is not meant to disseminate what may be deemed bad information, and I know some may not consider wearing one's hair natural to have any rules. What I simply and innocently mean is that there are undeniable certain opinions on how to take care of naturual hair that is used by more (or at least written about and youtubed on) than others. Most of it has been helpful to me. As many other naturals have told me, and I believe, is that no one head is alike. Anyway, this is meant to be fun but insightful thread to see what information or techniques that you hear most suggested to do but find that something else works for you.
For me:
1. Neither the LOC or the LCO work best. I use the LOC(S)O method. I have seen others use it too, but the other two seem more prevalent. I use a liquid/leave-in, a combination mixture of moisturizing oils, a cream/butter mixture, (styler some times) and a combination mixture of sealing oils.
2. I do not style on soaking wet hair ever. My hair needs to be damp to get the best style. (I also never do a wash and go, so...)
Those are the first two off the top of my head. I may have more that I will add as I think of them.

Re: What are some natural hair "rules" that you break?
It's not a natural hair rule as it's just a hair rule. I really need to be better with regular trims.
Maybe I don't care because I keep my hair in either twists by sectioning my hair into four sections and twisting it up. Then I twist them together and tuck it all back. All of that to say that maybe once or twice a week, maybe, my hair is actually out."The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it." - Chinese Proverb

I know some say to comb your hair when it's full of conditioner but a lot of times I just leave a little bit of conditioner in my hair and comb when I'm done getting dressed. Hair is only slightly damp.

For me it's letting my hair out to be expose to the harsh winter elements. One of the worse things you can do to your hair.

I touch my hair all the time. I'm always playing with it... like the suburban kids used to do me in elementary school

Satin bonnet, pillowcase or satin scarf. ALWAYS. That's the one rule I never break. All other rules I break

Re: What are some natural hair "rules" that you break?
Like the previous poster said, I don't trim my hair that often. Also, I don't always put a satin/silk scarf on at night.

Re: What are some natural hair "rules" that you break?
I ALWAYS use sulfate shampoo. I'm a dancer. Sulfates cut through the sweat, oil, and product. I deep condition after so it's fine.
