Adopted brother who posed as "son" speaks out, contradicts some of Rachel's claims

Disliked 'The Help' because a white woman made millions off of a black woman's story but she misrepresented herself for YEARS was probably paid to be a part of that panel, just like her other speaking engagements. A white woman who never claimed to be anything else shouldn't be able to make bank off of that story but a white woman masquerading as an exxotical "black" woman is a-okay? Maybe she thought her situation is supposed to be better because she's not wealthy from her lies. (or at least not yet; I could see someone approaching her about a book deal or a movie)

For the record, I think the woman is cuckoo. There have been many white people involved in civil rights and the struggles of Black people. There was no need for her to lie and pretend to be Black. Look at Time Wise and his work around white privilege. I hate liars.

NOW, I think the bigger question, taking into account the current cultural zeitgeist of Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner. Simple question. If Bruce Jenner can be transgender, why can't Rachel be transracial?

If you say transracial doesn't exist, there was a time when transgenderism didn't exist. Perhaps she is the first transracial person ever. Someone has to be first.

If you look at her appearance (and choice of hairstyles ), couldn't the same transgender statement of making the "outside match the inside" also apply to Rachel? Could her "insides" be telling her that she's Black?

I don't follow "Awesomely Luvvie," but her posting on this popped up in a search. Here's the article: Rachel Dolezal the Undercover Sista and Performing Blackness

One part that stood out to me:

Also, as far as the transgender comparison. Gender and sex are two different things. One is social and fluid (gender) and the other is biological (sex). Transgender identity is about people who don’t identify as what they were assigned at birth. Rachel was putting on a costume but Caitlyn was taking one off to live her life in a way that was most comfortable.

Could it be that Rachel didn't identify with the "whiteness" that was assigned to her at birth? "Whiteness" is a construct just as "Blackness" is a social construct based upon taxonomical race. Surely "race" can be seen as fluid. Some Black people like R&B and hip hop. Some love rock and classical music.

How many threads have we had on NP about not being a "traditional Black" person or being called "white" because one had certain tastes and opinions?

One last question, who has determined that the "trans" phenomenon only applies to gender? Can people cross all types of lines?

I might could get with the idea of trans racialism if there weren't such a long and well trodden history of white appropriation of the cultures of people of color for their benefit.

Also trans racialism implies that it could work the other way around and of course it never could for those of us who cannot visually pass. She was able to make something work because she can make herself look like a fair skinned black person. Someone who looks like me can never look like a white person therefore I can never "trans" into that race no matter what I think about myself on the inside. Based on what she said about her background (before the jig was up) she and I have the same background. I am African, Native American & European according to a couple of DNA tests. However people that look like me will never be able to walk around talking about "I'm white" no matter what percentage of whiteness I may actually have in my heritage.

I'm just not with her. I'm not here for any form of cultural appropriation and playing black like every day is Halloween just... I can't. She infiltrated a black think tank group that I belong to on Facebook. So I've actually had some level of dialogue with her and I was probably amongst the first to know when this whole thing was starting to blow up. Looking back at her posts now, the way she was talking TO ACTUAL BLACK PEOPLE as if she were a black person...Her pathology runs deep.

Edit: another thing that really bugs me about this whole story is all this wah wah wah "Well she's doing a lot of good for the black community..." this that. First of all I don't think appropriating our culture is doing us a whole Lotta good but second of all there's lots of actual black people who are doing lots of good things for the black community. Why do we need her to run in on a horse as the white Savior all of a sudden.

I found this article quite interesting.

why can't we accept individuals that choose to be a different race?
Being black is more than just the colour of your skin.

Exactly, but the people who erroneously liken transgenderism to transracialism would probably dismiss this point by saying "Well, not all post-op or pre-op trans people pass either", which ignores what it would take for someone to be "passable" in terms of gender presentation versus being "passable" in terms of phenotypic markers of race. It also ignores sociohistorical reasons why someone would want to "pass" for another in first place as well as the consequences of failure or being outed.

And for those who may not know: The word "transracial" has been mostly used to describe children who are of one racial background who are adopted and raised by people from a different background. For example Pax and Zahara Jolie-Pitt would be considered transracial adoptees. In the past few years there's been some people who have tried to highjack to concept to explain how they were "born as the wrong race" and why their appearance doesn't match who they really are inside. Their words, whether in jest or in seriousness, are harmful because they detract from the very real issues that some transracial adoptees face. A delusional weeaboo who "feels" East Asian inside is NOT transracial, they are someone who (in all likelihood) has a very narrow idea of what it means to be someone of East Asian descent and has a strong affinity for the stereotypes and tropes they associate with that group of people.

She thinks of herself as black now but she was white when she sued Howard University. If I were a betting woman I'd wager that losing this case was a turning point on Rachel's road to "blackness". If she felt that she hadbeen denied certain things because she isn't black it's not hard to imagine that she thought that becoming "black" would help her get access to what she thinks she deserves.
