Dark skin, light hair...??
Ssssooo I want to try something new for this summer, dye my hair light. I've googled and when it comes to black girls it's always light skinned girls or Alek Wek dark skinned girls with the lighter colours.
So, is it possible to go light with "regular black" dark skin?? I need a change and I'd rather not cut again.
Any tips/advice or photo examples??
Ironically enough this picture [http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/wen...awards-03.jpg] of Alek Wek looks very close to my skin colour.Last edited by AStone; 06-15-2015 at 10:59 AM.

Re: Dark skin, light hair...??
Yes it's possible to go light with dark skin.
My only advice is, no matter what you choose to rock, you've got to wear it like you meant it.http://www.nappturality.com/forum/pi...972292&thumb=1 http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/...58/184/7ba.gifRevelation 21:4 - Psalm 51 - Psalm 121 - Ephesians(All words typed above are my experience and/or opinion, please feel free to agree or disagree....just please, do so without malice.)Loc'ed: 19/NOV/08 - Love ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~NP Convert since 06/08

I second, KoilyLocGirl"s advice; wear it like you mean it.
If you can, try for a hue that complements your undertone.

Re: Dark skin, light hair...??
Since your natural hair color will need to be lifted in order for a light dye to show I would suggest getting a professional to do it if you have the money. Going pro would probably lessen the chance of brassiness. If you can't afford to go pro I'd suggest using home hair color that has neutral or ash tones because these have the least chance of going brassy. You can follow up with a color gloss if the permanent color isn't quite cool or warm enough for you.
Color treated hair might require a little more tlc so don't be surprised if you find yourself moisturizing more often.
Do you use products with cones in them? If so you probably won't have too many problems with fading. If you don't you'll need to do a little more maintenance to keep your color looking fresh. If you mix a little semi permanent color in to some conditioner and let it sit in you hair for 10-15 min it should refresh your color. I did this every other week when my hair was cherry red but reds tend to be high-maintenance, so you may not need to do it as often.

Re: Dark skin, light hair...??
I think most people can lighten their hair. What helps is finding the right tone for your complexion, so it will be flattering to you. I think that some form of red suits most people. My own preference is a red tone, rather than blonde for people with rich complexions. For those who do go blonde, most of the people I see would look better with a darker tone of blonde than that super bright yellow so many choose. Just my 2% of a dollar.

Re: Dark skin, light hair...??
I think the key here is your attitude.
I agree you must wear it like you mean it, whatever the colour. I am a dark skinned person and I dyed my hair bright red, then it washed out to a ginger sort colour with red hues. I love it and rock it with pride.
Everyone else has been forced to my position because I clearly love my hair.
Mind you I live in a very conservative place and work with very conservative people as a director of a company so this is saying something.
Go for it, whatever colour you decide.
