Hesitant About Coloring Locs
I know this subject has been discussed before, but I wanted to talk about it further. I have been wearing my locs in a bob style for the past year and a half with bangs. I love my hair and get compliments on how thick my locs are. However, I am graying more than I would like to. I have been using, get this, eye makeup to hide some of my gray, but that is starting to be aggravating to have to keep doing it so often. I have been struggling with the decision on whether to dye or not to dye. I am afraid of damaging my hair. I have read on here about the natural hair dyes like Henna, etc., but I do not think I have the patience for mixing things up and doing it myself. I would like to hear from those of you who have used permanent dye on your locs for a number of years and what has been your experience. I want to hear the bad as well as the good experiences. I need to decide what I am going to do. When it comes to my hair I am now lazy and want to do as less as possible. This is the reason why I have had locs for years and have now chosen to keep them short. Any advice would be helpful. I should add that I am not dying my locs any color but black or off black. I like a more natural look just to hide the gray.

Re: Hesitant About Coloring Locs
I really would appreciate some advice. Was your experience good or bad? Would you advise me to do it with permanent dye? If I were loose I'd do it in a second.

Re: Hesitant About Coloring Locs
Me? I go to a natural hair salon and they use a semi-permanent color. I've always had good experiences going to the salon. They can properly wash out the excess dye and give them a good conditioning after. Quick and simple.

Re: Hesitant About Coloring Locs
Thanks, Chaca. I feel encouraged. I really think I am headed that way. May I ask about how long have you been dying?

Re: Hesitant About Coloring Locs
I've been doing it on and off for over 10 years with every set of locs. I have another appointment in October.

Re: Hesitant About Coloring Locs
I usually use henna, however, lately I haven't felt like doing that long rinsing process. I used Garner Nutrisse and so far I haven't had any problems. I must say that my hair behaves differently because of high porosity and swimming in chlorinated water 5 days a week.

Re: Hesitant About Coloring Locs
For me, hair dye has been damaging. I use Naturtint, which does a good job, though it burns when I apply it. It's supposedly made of mostly natural inredients.
