Re: Newbies to site & locing
I just joined this site a few minutes ago. I've known about the site for years, but mostly just stuck to youtube. Now I'm trying to connect with others on a journey similar to mine.

Re: Newbies to site & locing
Hi I just stumbled upon this website and am looking to start locking my hair but I don't know where to start. I ended up free forming my hair by accident and love the look I'm getting but I'm afraid I'll end up with the Bob Marley hairstyle. I'm wanting to get a tidier look. Does it matter if you start locking with braids or twists? What will happen if I were to free form with either one?
I'm still a newbie in natural hair.. started over a year ago and have wanted dreadlocks since I was a kid and I'm more than ready to start this journey!Last edited by simplykula; 10-21-2016 at 12:45 AM.

Re: Newbies to site & locing
Yeh, it seems like you will need to research lock installation techniques and maintenance. Both, along with your texture will determine the outcomes of your journey. There's a lot of that information here on the "help me with my locs' board. Happy reading!

Thank you for your response. I will keep on researching. I've read from some that it doesn't matter if you start with braids or two strand twists.

Re: Newbies to site & locing
Well, it does matter - the end results are different, maintenance and care is different so it's worth researching. In the end, both will result in locks-but the journeys are definitely different. Your hair texture, lifestyle, personality will impact the decision and what's the best way to proceed-for YOU. Design your locks to fit your life.
