Help! Is this breakage normal?
Hello ladies
I am in need of some serious help! I installed some marley braids about 2 weeks ago. and its winter time here in East Africa where I live, so I did ofcourse as a protective style. But today as I was reinstalling some braids that had gotten a little too loose for my liking
As I untwisted my hair after removing the braid, I noticed quite a lot of hair breakage. Now looking at HOW MUCH BREAKAGE, i think its quite a lot but maybe its just the whole normally expected few hairs that have shed while you had braids situation. Please take a look at the pic.
is this amount of breakage per section braided normal? (in one kind of medium but on the smaller side, I had about 1.5cmx1.5cm hair sections in each braid)

Re: Help! Is this breakage normal?
Hi Charlotte Kalon...welcome to NP.
Two weeks? I'd say that's not bad. However, it depends on what condition your hair was in before you put the braids in and how you've been keeping it up while it's been in the braids. Also keep in mind that at this time of year (winter in East Africa) this might be considered normal shedding for you.
It's been a long time since I've worn added hair so I'll defer to those with more experience. Good luck...Hello, 2021. Glad to see you. Hope you're bringing us goodness and light this year!

Is that shed hair or actual breakage? I shed like that everyday, LOL! I think I should be the one worried. I'd say you're fine. Did you ever find out for sure?

Re: Help! Is this breakage normal?
I know I have breakage and b/c of my own carelessness, not moisturizing properly or should I say in a timely manner. brushing or combing my dry hair and that good ol I have to touch my hair syndrome.. But I am vowing and working on these problems especially since cold weather is amongst us.

Re: Help! Is this breakage normal?
That sounds like a good plan!
Keeping your hair (and body) hydrated is the very best thing you can do regardless of the climate. Our hair craves moisture and because of is delicate shape and ribbon form full of twists and turns and weak points, it needs it.
Try not to brush or comb your hair when it is dry - that will contribute to any breakage you may be experiencing. And sleeping in s satin scarf does wonders because cotton pillows can dry out your hair, making breakage worse.
Hope this helps!
