Default Slate article: I'm Not Your Racial Confessor

I didn't want to post this in the State of Blackness thread because this article is about white folks, or, more specifically, dealing (or not dealing) with their feelings. Care to discuss? (I'll just say right now I was AMEN-ing all through it...)

    This hit home with me

Bouie: I am often asked for my advice or guidance on how to achieve racial healing, as if I have or have evinced any particular expertise. To borrow from Tressie, once you have attained some level of visibility as a black writer, there are people who think you become a kind of MLK surrogate.
And I had to disappear from my personal social media accounts for 2 months because of it. It's not that I don't welcome white people who ask my opinion on Black matters, and who want my genuine opinion. What bothers me is when I say something they didn't "expect" me to say and then get all "I didn't know you were one of them" about it. I am not sure if this is a conscious method to angle black people against each other, or categorize us into neat little boxes - or just genuine surprise that I may not be of the same opinion as all others --- but in the age of Trump I can see a lot more of this already happening.

I find myself avoiding discussions now - with white people - about Trump. One day however, probably in the near future, I know I will explode.
