I think it's silly your friend told you this but didn't elaborate!

If you put heat to your hair, color treat, over condition your hair to the point of it feeling gummy, or your natural curl pattern is not bouncing back, protein treatments would probably work well for you.

If your hair is maintaining your natural curl/wave just fine and bounces back without any issue and/or is dry and breaking off, protein treatments are likely not your best line of defense.

If this question is in regards to your own hair, what is your hair like right now?

Exactly, I've never heard it matters in a different sense. I've honestly never heard of any hair salon doing this or maybe it's just me lol.

Hi, I just seen your post. I am a noob here, but been natural for almost 2 years. By all means, I do not know everything....Because I am still learning my own hair, yet I feel the need to answer. I agree with Soulcoyl post. This being said, There are not specific protein being sold for specific types of hair. There are different porosities for hair: low, medium (or normal) and high (or porous) hair. Meanwhile, porous hair just need more protein than low and or medium porosities hair. It has to be balance with moisture. I hope you understand. If you do not, Google porosity.

Hi, I have lots of info on this. I made 3 videos on my youtube channel TriniGIrlNatural. I have one talking about how to know if you need protein, one on what the best types of proteins are and a few of me doing protein treatments. I think basically we can almost all benefit from protein but you have to find the right one for your hair and your hair state in terms of health / damage. Hope that helps!

I agree. It does depends on the state of your hair ( if one's hair is over-moisturize, type of porosity and allergies).
    Hair Type: 3C
    Porosity: High porosity
    Density: Medium
    Hair Width: Medium
    Hair Elasticity: Medium

I think most hair does need protein at some point but I cannot use very much. The less damage you have, the less protein you need, I believe. My hair is normal to low porosity and coarse, so needs vey little.
