I've had friends and family who have had it and while it wasn't the direct cause of my father's death last month, it was a major contributing factor to his rapid health decline.

That kind of hit me hard as I am out of the country and do to travel restrictions i could not get back to the funeral. It was not a covid case. Very sorry for your loss. The worst is not being able to be there to mourn together with them and comfort each other.

COVID finally got me in June this year. Thankfully, I only had light symptoms (a bit more tired) but no loss of taste or smell.

In other news, tomorrow I have a followup with my ophthalmologist. Seems my thyroid is on the fritz. According to him, as we learn more about COVID side effects, thyroid issues seem to be cropping up.

ETA: My sister lost her BIL to COVID last year...he was one of those folks that thought it was/is a conspiracy and never got vacc'd. My niece in love lost her oldest sister (early 40's and 3 daughters) and grandmother to COVID last year as well.
