Herbal Tea Conditioner for Locks (to be used in place of regular creamy conditioners)
4 oz. Aloe Vera Gel
2 oz. Strong herbal tea made of 1 tablespoon dried rosemary and sage
1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin
2-4 drops lavender essential oil (or any other essential oil you prefer)
Let the tea cool down to room temperature then add in a spray bottle with the other ingredients. Shake and spray through out entire head after washing. Seal with a light oil like jojoba or sweet almond oil. This conditioner can also used in between shampoos whenever hair feels dry.

Thank you for these recipes!! I decided to to create my own little recipe with some stuff i had at the house:
I combined 8 oz of shea butter (it was premelted when I bought it from the hair store) with a tablespoon each of castor oil, olive oil, and this argon oil blend (it has all natural oils and extracts in it...no mineral or petroleum or bad oils for our hair) me and Minime whipped it with the hand mixer for about 5 minutes or so and it's SOOOOO fluffy and light. I can't wait to use it on her hair (and it's fire on my skin esp now that it's winter time and we have hard water).

Hey all,
I've reconfigured my whipped shea butter recipe this weekend...went out and bought some more stuff...and at first I was nervous about the way it melted so quickly in my hands but after I put it on my hair...it was the right thing for me to do...this will be my winter hair recipe (harsh, cold, dry Wisconsin winters and hard water):
8 oz of shea butter
2 tablespoons each of castor and olive oil
4 tablespoons each of coconut and almond oil
8 capsules of Vitamin E oil
30 drops of peppermint EO
45 drops of orange EO (i added a lot of EOs because my mother uses it but she HATES the smell of shea)
I melted them over a double boiler, added the EOs after i took them off the DB. Put them in the freezer for about ten mins, whipped them up, put them BACK in the freezer for about 5 more mins (my freezer is REALLY cold) and whipped them up for another 10 minutes...I'm letting them firm up overnight...but as SOON as it hits your fingers it melts...and it is WONDERFUL on my hair which is so dry and brittle...I think the extra oils make it perfect for Midwestern winters...
Hope you all enjoy!

Ooooh, never saw this thread before! Nice!
My favorite shea butter mix is as follows:
8oz of shea butter
1/2 cup of aloe vera gel
3 tbsp of extra virgin coconut oil
1oz sweet almond oil
1oz grape seed oil
1oz castor oil
1oz extra virgin olive oil (if I have it)
1oz hemp seed oil
10-20 drops eucalyptus, tea tree, rosemary, and lavender essential oils.
Sometimes I'll add jasmine or orange essential oil for the smell. I've been using the basic recipe since my first year natural. It's great for my protective styles and I use it on my skin also.
My favorite and best oil mix is as follows:
In an 16oz bottle (because I use it a lot):
4oz castor oil
4oz sweet almond oil
2oz grape seed oil
2oz hemp seed oil
2oz extra virgin olive oil
15 drops each of eucalyptus, tea tree, rosemary and lavender. I added 10 drops of geranium and 10 drops of jasmine oil and it smells wonderful! Great on my hair for the spring and summer. I layer it on top of my leave-ins for my wash and goes, my hair stays moisturized. A fellow dance student said my hair smelled "awesomely ginger-y" during class one day.So I'm sticking with this recipe!

Makalia I love that spray recipe...I'm going to have to use that for the summer for sure...but i have a question and i'm not sure if i missed it on the thread: what again is the purpose of aloe vera gel? Is it for hold? I've been thinking about incorporating some in a new mix but i'm not sure what it's for...
Thanks!

Aloe vera gel is more for moisture than for hold. I imagine if it's more hold you're after, then you'd use the one that came in the squeeze bottle (Fruit of the Earth brand). For the summer I'd use less oils, though, so it won't feel too greasy in the heat. Maybe one or two in addition to the coconut oil. I made a mix one summer using just shea butter, coconut oil and hemp seed oil and loved it.

Thank you! I thought it was for hold...but I like that it's for moisture too...I'm going to have to add that to my list for my next batch...I was actually looking for some at the hair store today (where I buy my shea butter) but didn't see any. I'll wait til next payday and get some at the vitamin shop or something like that...
And yes I will have to put less oils in it for the summer...but this winter is so harsh here if I don't have as many oils my hair will revolt lol...
Thanks again!
