i took my locs down and it took about 8 days in total. my hair was past my shoulders when i finished, but i had to have quite a few inches cut off for split ends. i must admit i miss my locs now though.

good luck if you decide to take them out but i think your locs look beautiful though.

Wow, this is news to me! I always thought once your locs matured (firmly loced), there was no way you could unravel them. I want to learn more, y'all!!

    lovely locks, sis!

i took mine down after 4 years or so... took almost a month; used conditioner and pushpins.

my album info is in my signature. detailed discussion of this borderline obsessive undertaking are in the 'locks' album at the bottom of the page. like some of the previous posters (wow! never thought there were so many on NP who'd undertaken this ) i missed my locks majorly for a long time; i was extremely happy with the finished product and subsequent afro but doubt i'd do it again.

i echo the advice to start with one lock at the back to see if it's something you can maintain, test tools & detanglers, etc.
& that's all i have to say about that. ;)

13 consecutive nappy years: fro/locks/fro. i *heart* my hurr.

I have been considering taking down the locs in the front because they are too big I think, and stiff, and don't fall they way I'd like them too. I thnk if they were smaller, I'd get more of the effect I'd hoped for.
They r just over 1 year old.
Don't know if I have the patience, and then to have to go thru the fuzzies all over again......

is it possible to comb dreads out with lots of detangler? i saw them do this also on extreme makeover, but the girl with dreads didn't have nappy hair like mine.
only apple cider vinegar and conditioner works to comb then out when they are not locked close to them scalp... otherwise you have to cut them out...
