It must be hard on you for your mother to be so negative. Stay strong.

I feel ya here, girl. My mama had the most outrageous stuff to say to me. I'm glad you put your foot down and let her know that her negativity is not tolerated.

I'm sorry that you had to go through that. I thank God that my mom is very supportive of my decision to go nappy.

IMO ,when people try to attack you they are really looking to defending their dependency on the creamy crack. Especially when they try to bring God into it. This is not the first time I have heard someone say that Nappy hair is not pleasing to God. That’s just so absurd.
That's your mom's fears talking...dont make them yours. You have too many people on this site and in real life that admire your hair as it is on your head and on theirs. So your mom is incorrect when she says it wont be accepted. We already do...and so do you.Nappy since November 11, 2003

She tried to convience me that JESUS kept up with his appearance. I reminded her that they didn't have combs in that day, and even if they did I don't think JESUS was thinking about his fro.

Oh, sistah, I sincerely apologize for that experience, especially with your mother...and the fact that she used the WWJD on ya....but the King of Solomon talks about hair as if it is its own entity so beauty is in natural hair so you be encouraged...sometimes, parents will step outside themselves simply to get the last word whether it's a building or demolitioning last word at that...
Who knows? You may have to call her back, sincerely apologize but firmly tell her exactly how you feel about your hair, from being laid back to being corporate.
I've had to make a similar stand with family and their attitudes haven't changed much, but their comments have lightened an awful light!
Be encouraged, sistah, you look GOOD!

The next time it comes up (hopefully she got the message, and it won't), be sure to THANK her for GIVING you your beautiful nappy hair! And tell her she's beautiful, just as God made her and that He does not make mistakes.

Sigh....will the ignorance ever end? Just hang in there, mom probably wishes she had half the guts you do. But, in the meantime, she may need to read her Bible a little more.

Netta girl, just keep on doing what you do. Your hair is slamming!
:excl: I am so tired of ignit people saying God wouldn't be pleased with our nappy napptural hair. If He isn't pleased with it, then why oh why did He give it to us in the first place? Are they trying to say He made a mistake when He created our hair? If so, I thougth God didn't make mistakes. Which one is it?
