Oooooooooh! Thank you soooooooooooooo much for these. I asked this question a while back and didn't really get the answers I was looking for. This is exactly what I wanted. I was so perplexed by all the acronyms on this board when I read them and hoped someone would spell it all out sometimes so I could put two and two together. Now I don't have to guess anymore! Yea!!!!
This is really helpful to newbie nappturals like myself and they make it so much easier to understand what the ladies mean when referring to what they are doing to their hair or what it looks like. For instance, I didn't know "no poo" meant washing with conditioners. I thought it means no shampoo, which it does, but I was wondering what was taking the place of the shampoo. Was it some other product I should be using. I didn't even think to consider conditioner as the washing agent! Ha! I felt so silly when I found that out today. You see how helpful you spelling out the acronyms was for me? I learn something new here all the time and I love you guys for it.
I've passed this website on to my elder sister so that she could see for
herself how wonderful our natural hair is and can continue to be. This site is a must have booster for women who have permed for years and could never see the possiblities of working with their God given natural hair. I'd LOVE to see her with natural hair. Once she sees the horrors and damages of perming and years and years of it, she may just consider doing the big change-o. Patience is truly virtue and a natural progression to growth and style of natural hair is simply time and the transition it takes to get to where you want your hair to be. It is to grow with it as it grows with you and to wherever it may take you, and it is purely acceptance of your true self. I absolutely love my natural hair more now than ever. I'm older and I'm much wiser. I chose to not be conditioned by the media, by the black woman and her bone straight hair on the box (doesn't mean you have to look like her), nor men's preferences and conditioning also to look a certain way to be attractive to them, nor by our white sisters hair texture, nor by swinging long hair in the wind, nor by frustration, boredom, or urges to look other than myself. I have truly been liberated by doing the big chop and it is for keeps. Thanks to all the napptural ladies here who've made it possible for me to realize I am not alone, and who have helped to open my eyes in more way than one of the true beauty of our hair and how unique and beautiful we all are NATURALLY and NAPPTURALLY .
Peace!
---Moonlight

The kitchen area is the back of your hair towards the nape of your neck...
Not too sure where this term originated, but my Big Mamma said it's a throw back to when hair was pressed in the kitchen or something... :dunno:
