Thumbs up

A quick heads up, in the December 13, 2004 issue of Newsweek (Jesus and Mary on the cover), in the Periscope Section, Page 9, there is a very brief article on natural hair :afro: . Not necessarily worth purchasing the entire magazine, but worth taking a quick glance through when you go to the pharmacy/supermarket or visiting the website: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6646530/site/newsweek

What are your thoughts regarding our natural hair finally being recognized in the mainstream (commercials, movies, national magazines)? Also, feel free to post any other interesting links regarding how our natural hair is viewed in mainstream America and abroad.

it would be nice if someone would really discuss the issue of hair, beauty and race in an in-depth article, perhaps in essence?

Nice article, but I know I'd never pay THAT much to get my hair done in gold & platinum. We are a talented bunch, we know how to do our own heads because no one else does. Survival of the fittest..... and that we are! HOLLA!

I have also noticed that. In fact, from what I've seen, most mainstream commercials, especially those that aren't targeted towards black, almost always have sistas with natural hair styles. Very rarely do I see a commercial with black and white women where the sista's hair is permed. Now if its a commercial with just black folks, the hair is almost always straight.

To date, I haven't had a need for a natural salon.
