I made an appointment next week for sugaring hair removal. Has anyone here had it done before?
A friend of a friend suggested I go, and said it is better for the bikini area than waxing.
Anyone had any experiences?

I have not had it yet, but I am looking for salons that use this technique in my area. I am really interested in this, I have a love/hate relationship with waxing. There is a plethora of information about it on the web.
Here is an exert from iVillage.com
Sugaring is an ancient hair-removal practice that's gaining popularity today because the effects are similar to waxing, but the sugar is only slightly warmed (never reaching the same high temperature as wax), causing less skin irritation. And the sugar tends to stick only to the hairs, not to the skin, causing less discomfort. The process is the same as waxing: Warm sugar is applied to the skin, then removed with muslin strips.

I like sugaring better than regular wax. The Indian lady makes her on sugaring. It doesn't hurt as bad.

I definitely prefer sugaring to waxing. It's gentler than waxing on the skin and I find it to be more precise in terms of getting to the root of the hair follicle. Also, it's all natural.

Do you make your own at home? If so, when you refrigerate the mixture, does it look like sugar when you take it out the next day?

I have to second BH in saying that I prefer sugaring over waxing, and that shop that I frequented informed me that it was actually better for curlier hair. Heyfranhey created a video awhile back with instructions on how to make your own natural & organic sugar wax, if you're interested in experimenting with DIY:

For me personally I find it to be the same level of pain as waxing. Hence why I have to get it done professionally. I could never wax/sugar myself b/c I chicken out due to the pain factor. I'd rather someone else's quick hands do it. I will say that if done properly sugaring takes less time than waxing which decreases the pain significantly. And IA that sugaring is better on course/curly hair.
