For those who twist their locs and wash/rinse their locs more than once a week...
Do you retwist every single time you wash?
And how often should people twist without damage?
Thanks!

I wash once a week and rinse more than once a week and I don't retwist. A person should not retwist more than once a month. It's one thing to retwist the hair (length of the loc) if it unravels but retwisting or maintaining the roots more often than every four weeks is just asking for weakened roots and thinning locs in the future.

I wash 1-2 times a week (in winter). I rinse almost daily.
I only separate the roots, so there is no hugging in between my locs. I really like the look it gives to my locs and also love the tickness. I also love the freshly twist locs but only for occasions or real maintenance
BTW: I purchased a hair drywer that blows cold hair.
It is excellent for the winter so i don't have to go outside with wet hair. I partially dry my locs and then on my way to work, the heat from the car will dry my hair before i get to work.
Is it from the car bad for hair???
It is so cold that i have to blast the heat---and i was starting to wonder if it was good for the hair--i know it makes my skin really dry, so i am kind of happy to rinse daily to ensure that my hair has enough moisture in it...

I wash every week, and I twist everytime I wash. I feel I have to because I takes sooooo long for my new growth to loc. During the summer, I do just wash and let it go, but not for long, because I'll end up with a nest of two-headed dragons!

I know of someone who washes and retwists once a week. She has beautiful 4 year old locs about pencil width. Very manicured look but she hasn't had any breakage. As for meI have to do something because it seems my roots grow intertwine at any given chance. I think one should evaluate there own head and watch for weak spots or breakage.

Therefore, for your name's sake,
Lead me and guide me.

I wash twice a week, rinse daily (sometimes twice: morning and evening) and never twist my hair. I go to the loctician every 2-4 months. My locs will be 4 years old in April 2005, and at the beginning I used to twist OFTEN...and I experienced breakage...So know I leave it alone!

I wash once a week and rinse or spritz my locs every few days. I don't retwist more than once a month;. I just think that it would be damaging to do so and I fear breakage. Plus, I'm just too lazy to be twisting my hair all the time. I started out latching at the end of every month, but now I think I'm gonna just latch whenever I feel I need to, or whenever I touch one of my locs and feel a lot of new growth.

I wash about twice a week and rinse often and I do not re-twist it after every "wetting"; however, I do pop them apart.

I had grown into a routine of retwisting every two months. I have resolved to do it more often because my hair grows quickly but locks very slowly so if I do a ponytail without retwisting it looks like I have an afro with locked ends. Also, some of my locks have flattened which I don't like. I'll try to retiwst at least twice a month.
I think this will actually be better for my hair as where the loose hair is one or two inches, the connection between the loose hair and the lock seems to me to be weaker than areas where there is less new growth.
But to answer the question, no I don't retwist every time I wash.

i wash and rinse now every other day (cuz a girl is tryin to work out, ya'all!) but i retwist probably on the average every 6 weeks (give or take a day). I am trying to get into the habit of seperating them after a was - but sometimes if i'm all in my head like that it leads to twisting the roots. i haven't noticed any "thinning" or damage - but i'm pretty new to the journey still.
