Hi All,
Kinda new to whipping up hair products and I am loving how my hair responds to my concoctions. I think I remember seeing a topic on coconut milk but can't find it now.
Does anyone have any recipes on using coconut milk? I got a small can for .99 cents and want to see what I can whip up. Also, does it smell like coconuts (haven't opened it yet)? Will it spoil when you add it to recipes? Can you use it alone? Any comments are welcome. Thanks ladies!

Hi,
I did whip up something with coconut milk but it spoiled after 2 weeks. But it was the best thing for my hair and it left my hair really soft!! Maybe I was suppose to add a preservatie to it but I am not sure.
This is what I did:
4 oz. shea butter
1 oz. jojoba oil
1 oz. sweet almond oil
2 oz. coconut milk
1 oz. beeswax
drops of essential oils
This came out really creamy!! I am going to keep trying at this one since I really like it and see what I can do to preserve the coconut milk in this. Next time I am going to make a small batch with a preservative and see if that works.

Oh! Thanks so much finehair! I like your recipe. I am going give it a try this weekend. I am loving coconut oil and shea butter together so I expect the milk should be great too. Thanks again!

Have you tried straight coconut oil? It is sold in most whole foods or health food stores. I melt it down and spray it into my hair before, after, or during styling. It has no scent, and a little goes a long way. I also use it for my skin. I have course hair, and found that it softened when I applied it before bed and wrapped my hair with a scarf...Let me know if it works. :afro:

finehair,
coconut milk = water
water = ground for bacterias and fungi
may be you should try your recipe with dessicated coconut milk, or even virgin coconut oil (if you have only oils, butters and waxes in your mixture, it's unlikely to spoil)

Earthy Diva-- Looks like a great recipe too! Thanks very much.
pinadelx---Yes, I love coconut oil. I mix it with shea butter for a hair smoothie. It truly works wonders and thanks for the help.

Thanks for that . . . I ordered some virgin coconut oil and it came in, so I am going to try the coconut oil instead of the coconut milk and see how it turns out.
Thanks

Coconut Milk Moisture (pre-shampoo treatment)
coconut milk
olive oil
Suave Coconut Conditioner
Mix ingredients well and pour on hair. Cover with a plastic cap and warm towel for about 1 hour. Rinse and follow with no-poo or mild, diluted shampoo (e.g. baby shampoo). Viola! Like butta!"Never allow anyone to build your world; they may make the rooms too small".
