Im just writring here to warn you about the damage that pony puffs can do with your hair.

When I wore my hair out (with no extension) I usually wore a pony puff. I ve only done this for a few months (6-7 months) and just recently I noticed that a certain amount of hair has broken off in the middle of my head!

See it used to happen to me when I had my hair relaxed and I would do tight pony tails. I would never thought that it would happen to me again with my natural hair because I was being careful not to tie my hair too tight. :doh

So now I have about 1/2 inch of hair in the midlle of my head with about 7-8 inches of hair. PLus it is very sensitive there. I think the breakage is caused by the lack of circulation...I dont know :dunno:

So the solution for me is to stop doing pony puffs and I am now wearing twists with extension (done by me!). Im waiting for my hair to grow to about 15 inches or more to start wearing twists with my natural hair.

The only damage in my hair was caused by my puff. Me edges are all messed up and there is a spot somewhere on my head.

I have decided not to wear puffs anymore too.

    sorry that happened.
i've heard of a few other women who had that problem. not to mention, thinning edgies.

puffs are cute and quick, but make use of those protective styles ladies.

I've had that happen when wearing puffs too - some of the hair in the middle was broken off really short. And I am also pretty careful about the amount of tension I use. It's really sad 'cause I love the style, but now I wear twists usually.

Btw, I was wondering the same thing - why 15 inches? That seems a long time to wait to wear your natural hair (unless you're close to this already). And you have to be careful with extensions too. They can also damage your hair if your not careful.

I haven't had any thinning in the top but I have recently noticed thinning edges. I've laid off of the puffs and I'm doing my own lil' protective challenge.

I love puffs too but hadn't ever worn them much because of warnings like this. So I just rock my shake n go everyday with either 1 barette or no accessories at all - just a shake n go fro!

Well I said at least 15 which is about twice the length that I have now, because I find that my current length is not good enough to do the styles that I want. Its not short but not long enough for me. I personnaly find that I look better with longer hair. Ideally it would have to reach my shoulder, I would say in about a year and a half.

And I am being careful with extension. I do the twists by myself ( so they are not tight at all!), I dont keep them for a long time (about 3-4 weeks), and I moisturise my hair with a glycerin and water braid spray.
