Welcome to the second installment of EDUCATION FOR US BY US (E-FUBU). The first EFUBU was a list of SAT/GRE vocabulary terms. There were many who wanted to do something to help others that participated in that thread. This is the link to the first E-FUBU: Vocabulary.

In this thread you are invited to submit an SAT/GRE word with definitions, a math problem, an example SAT problem, a tip for standardized test takers, a logic question, or any other question/problem comment that generally serves to 1)elevate our level of thinking, 2)increase our knowledge, and/or 3)may improve testing skills/scores. So, all posts don't necessarily need to have an explicit connection to standardized testing because any problem that gets us thinking will help with that. If an actual problem or example is submitted, please hold the solution until at least one person has had a chance to attempt solving it.

I will get it rolling with a quick math problem as given in post #2 below. If someone has not solved post #2 by the third attempt, I (or hopefully anyone around who knows the answer) will provide a solution. If someone knows the answer and can verify whether an offered solution is valid, please do so. To all participants who choose not to quote the original problem, please indicate the post number/page# corresponding to the question for which you are providing the answer if you don't mind; this may make things more convenient for everyone. "Each one teach one"---all other demographics embrace this philosophy fully, why don't we?

Insert algebraic symbols (/ x + - ) in lieu of question marks into the following equation to make it true:

    (9 ? 1) ? (7 ? 6) ? (8 ? 4) = 3

The math works for me when I make the equation this:

    (9 - 1) - (7 - 6) - (8 - 4) = 3

Is there more than one solution because mine took me a minute? Ahem..Not much longer than a minute but still a minute.

    bricolage - BREE-koh-lazh
noun: construction or something constructed by using whatever comes to hand

Recently I've read about "outsider" artists who specialize in bricolage, creating works out of whatever's lying around the house or in their yards or neighborhoods.
Hello, 2021. Glad to see you. Hope you're bringing us goodness and light this year!
