Take a look at these two photos and their captions from hurricane Katrina’s aftermath. Both people appear to be doing the same activity (trying to secure food), but the descriptions of what they are doing are very different.

It won't allow me to view the pictures. So unless you can find links to them somewhere else we can see the pictures and then be offended. :dunno:

Oh wait, one picture is up. It looks like it's the Yahoo! news slideshow. You can find it just by going to http://news.yahoo.com and finding the Katrina coverage. Granted the slideshow has over 600 pictures, so it's a task to get through.

I saw one picture of a white man in a wrecked Wal-Mart. He claimed to have gotten permission from the Wal-Mart store to find supplies. As for the boy in Catsuga's picture, who knows? I mean the bottom line is there is a difference between looting and trying to find food, medicine and clothes. Unfortunately, the problem is black people will be presumed to be looters, but old white men will be presumed to be scavaging to survive. :icon_headshake:

Here are the two links, if people want to compare for themselves:

    White people "finding"

    Black person "looting"

Well, as CatSuga posted, in response Yahoo! has removed the picture of the white person "finding" at the Associated Press' request. So it looks like there were a lot of people who had problems with it and they've responded. Let's see if there is any further action outside of just taking the photo and its offensive caption down.
